Home

Through the efforts of dedicated staff and a fantastic group of volunteers and foster homes, Project Pet has found thousands of animals their forever homes. Here are just a few of the happy "tails" we love sharing with you.

Peanut

We love Peanut! He is a great dog, very, very, very playfull!  He has worn our puppy out.

Matilda aka Mattie

Here’s an update on Mattie (aka- Matilda) the Australian Cattle Dog we adopted from project pet in early May ’08.  She is happy, healthy and living well.  The recent good life added a few needed pounds to her once skinny frame & more color to her already plentiful palette.  She has made multiple trips to the beaches of Charleston & some of the finest restaurant patios of SC.  Been up to her eyeballs chasing birds in the marsh.  Partied off-leash at a bluegrass festival with other hounds.  Gets good report cards at Camp Bow Wow from time to time.  Is a staff favorite at Shandon-wood animal clinic (they seem to appreciate Mattie’s unusual good looks).  Gets rock star treatment at Half Moon Outfitters on Devine, complete with full access to the back-of-the-house water dish.  Has had numerous shopping sprees at the pet store for rawhides and plush toys, which she has a penchant for methodically dismembering one limb at a time.  Goes to work with me every day.  And makes a fantastic acoustic guitar audience.  Mattie gets plenty of attention wherever she goes.  People who are not familiar with Blue Heelers & the Cattle Breeds find her unusual & intriguing.  She gets many compliments for being so cute and friendly.  We have had a great time with Mattie and are happy we can give her a good life.

Dipstick aka Mario

Hi! My name is Dipstick. I got my new family about a month and a half ago and I could not be more happy and spoiled. When my new mom first got me she was afraid I was going to have to stay in a kennel during the day since her dad works at night and sleeps during the day but I have been such a great boy that I don’t have to stay in a kennel. I sleep with my mom most of the night and my new grandpa during the day. If I am not asleep I am such a good boy and just lay there and chew my chewstick or sit in my chair in front of the window. It is my favorite spot since I can see what is going on outside. I am good about going potty outside and I can even go out without my leash in the backward without running away. I could not have asked for a home and a family that loves me and spoils me more. As you can see this is my favorite toy and I love to play fetch. I love my new home and they all love me. My mom could not have asked for a better boy!!!!

Moe aka Little Mo Mo

I just wanted to let the ones who had taken care of him  know that he’s adjusting nicely.  I can tell he misses all of you who took care of him. He’s gone around the house calling out and I have to call his name and answer him. He is adjusting fine.  He’s already very sweet to us so I know why you were all so fond of him.  He’s already sitting in my lap when I’m on the computer. He’s very gentle. He’s finally settled down in the hallway to sleep (feet kicked out straight like a dog-I was told he does this lol-never seen another cat do this). Just wanted to let you know he misses y’all but he’s doing well in adjusting.  We’re very glad we adopted him.  He’s a good guy.

Kennedy aka Mr. Bramble

Hi! My name’s Bramble, and I’m another great Project Pet success story! My mama, Elizabeth, says she fell in love with me at first sight, but the first time I met her, I was just excited to be free to run around a bit. Well, I don’t have to worry about that anymore! Mama takes me for a walk three times a day--short walks in the morning and at lunch time, and a looooong walk in the evening after dinner. We go to the park for long walks almost every weekend, too, and sometimes we see wildlife like turtles, skinks, egrets, squirrels and possums! Mama likes to tell me the names of the birds we see, so I know what I’m chasing! When Mama’s home, I can run around the house and the yard all I want, although sometimes I get too excited and bump into things. That always makes Mama laugh...after she’s made sure I’m ok, of course.

Another great thing about my forever home is all the toys and goodies I get! Mama makes sure I have plenty of my own things to chew on so I won’t feel like chewing on her things. She says I’m very respectful of her shoes, which she appreciates, but she sighs whenever I steal socks from Mount Laundry when she’s folding fresh wash. I get a cookie whenever I do something good, like peepee outside or sit when Mama tells me to or even just for being ’so cute it’s not funny.’ Mama even embroidered my name on a pillowcase for my bed, but I still prefer to sleep in her bed whenever she’ll let me, just like I’m about to do in my picture!

On Sundays, we go to visit my grandparents, Papa and Jen Jen, my people-uncle, Daniel, and my dachshund-aunt, Heidi. Heidi can be a little pushy sometimes, but I can tell she likes me even though she tries not to let it show. Papa and Jen Jen have a big yard where I love to run around and test out the flavors of various leaves and grasses. When we’re there, everyone says I look like I was drawn by Dr. Seuss...whatever that means.

I’m very happy with my Mama in my forever home! Thanks so much, Project Pet, for rescuing me and making sure I found a good place to spend my life, and good friends to share it with. Now, back to work...there are lots more puppies waiting for you to find their homes too! Keep up the good work!

Turner
My Wife and I recently adopted Turner from PetSmart and he has been such a joy to have in the house.  He is the most affectionate little kitty we have ever seen and he just loves to talk to us.  You can’t be anywhere in the house without him crawling up in your lap for a little nap.  We love him!

Monroe

My name is Monroe and I am SO happy to be in my new home! My mom and dad can’t believe how well behaved and loyal I am.. Sometimes they call me Trip because I follow them so closely, they almost trip over me when they turn around! I love to be hugged, and I LOVE to play with my stuffed animal Boomer. I’ve already learned how to sit, and I love the treats my mommy gives me when I do. My parents can’t believe how lucky they are to have gotten such a great dog, and I am so excited to have found a home where I am so loved!

Shania
I wanted to send some pictures and give an update on Moxie. She definitely has a lot of puppy in her but she can be very sweet at times. I was distraught the Saturday I brought her home because my 14-year-old Cocker, Chelsea, was scared to death of her (trembling). She had recently lost her 13-year-old Cocker companion. Chelsea is on medication for seizures and I was afraid the new puppy would trigger those. Anyway, my 74 and 89-year-old neighbors kept Chelsea overnight so that Moxie and I could bond (I’m not sure what we hoped to accomplish). By the 3rd or 4th day, Chelsea warmed up to her and they have gotten along very well. Moxie has a tendency to play too rough, however. Chelsea’s tail is cropped, to about 2.5 to 3" long. Moxie literally pulls Chelsea’s tail or grabs her by the hair on her legs. She likes to take her toys and bat them against Chelsea inviting her to a tug of war. Chelsea may be 14 but she acts 10. I have a doggie door so potty training wasn’t a big issue after about a week or so (I did have to throw away two area rugs). I keep her crated during the day and my neighbors come over to let her out. The problem is when she comes in the door with my neighbor, she immediately goes back out through the doggie door. So Mr. Kennedy (the 89-year-old) just sits and waits for her to come back in. She carries everything in the house outside and everything outside (sticks) inside. I saw Moxie’s shadow trying to get through the doggie door and she had what I thought was a long stick so she couldn’t get in and left it there. I went outside later n and found out it was a bat (not wooden and not plastic - pretty substantial) the kids next door and thrown into the yard -- if you can imagine little Moxie trying to bring in a bat that measures approximately 3 feet long!

Moose
Moose is fantastic! He is such a joy to have in the house! I could not ask for a better cat - he seemed to adjust to our other two cats quickly, and he did not have a loss of appetite or anything. He is just curious and a bit clumsy : ) But he is very loving. Thank you for rescuing him so I could have such a wonderful pet.

Gus Gus (aka- Herb)
We cannot believe how lucky we are to have gotten our Gus Gus. The day we
adopted him Pam, his foster mom, told us he was the laid back, lazy guy in his
family, so we chose him. She was right, he has been such a good puppy from day
one. He loves his crate, loves being carried around by our 3 year old, and loves to try
to play with our cat (who is not so impressed with his cuteness). He loves to go for walks
and is really good at walking on a leash. We make pet treats, so he loves to come to work
with us, sample all the treats and give kisses to all our employees. I cannot say enough
good things about adopting him from Project Pet. The fact that we could talk Pam and find out his personality really made him a great fit for our family. We all just adore his happy little face and can’t imagine our family without this little guy being a part of it.

Ginger (aka- Jackie)
Just wanted to let you know that Ginger (Jackie) is proving to be a great fit for our family.  The kids love her and she is so tolerant of them.  We are already glad we made the decision to make her part of our family!  By the way, she is housebroken!  YEAH!

Captain Morgan

We can’t believe we are the lucky family who got to bring home this wonderful dog. Captain Morgan is the perfect fit for us. He adjusted quickly into his new home and stole our hearts in the process. Training has been a breeze. His foster parent taught him "sit" and he picked up "stay", "down", "leave it", and many others in no time. We worried how he would do with our 5 pound chihuahua, Sir Biggins, and they seem to have truly bonded. Sir Biggins definately runs the roost and despite Morgan’s size he’s incredibly gentle. Thank you Project Pet for caring for him until his "forever family" could bring him home. He is

Wink

Hope everyone is doing well!!  We have some baby photos we would love to share.  The first picture is of Wink posing.  Whenever he hears a noise unfamiliar to him he tilts his head back and forth like he is listening. He is too cute.  The next picture is of Wink on his leather chair.  This chair is for the dog that has “guard duty”.  He, he, he . . . It was supposed to be for me but the dogs use it to let us know if someone is on our property.  J  The next picture is his new pack.  The retrieve is formally known as Nikki to Project Pet.  We have named her Cosette or Cozy.  She loves to snuggle and put make up on with mommy in the early hours of the morning.  Sometime the babies love dinner in bed - - it is amazing how well everyone gets along.  And the last picture is of Wink talking.  We love how vocal he is!! J  He has adjusted incredibly well with our pack and loves attention and kisses.  We are so happy you brought him into our life.  We are extremely happy with his foster family.  They did a wonderful job taking care of him too.  Thank you for bringing happiness back into our life.

Hank

Hello Project Pet! My name is Elliott Stewart. I am 14 years old and I am writing this letter on behalf of the Stewart Familly. We had just adopted a pet from you last Saturday. My brothers and sisters all agreed upon adopting a puppy. His name is Hank and he is 12 weeks old. He has been such a blessing to this family, especially to my two little brothers, Asten and Aaron Stewart. Although we are still learning more about Hank and how to take good care of him, we have made him a part of the Stewart family. Hank is a very sweet and playful dog and anyone would be a fool to give him away. On behalf of all the Stewart children and family, we want to say thank you for this wonderful gift and have a blessed holiday.

Paris aka Ruby

Update on a cute little puppy! The first picture is how Ruby looked when I brought her home February 16th, 2008 (you had named her Paris, but I couldn’t resist naming her Ruby.) She was so adorable! Now that I’ve had her several months, she’s used to laying around happily with her rope toys knowing that she has my full love and attention. Her favorite activity is to go running in the forest with her other doggie friends, which happens almost every single day, that lucky dog, since I have the time to spend with her. She’ll be one year old in December and she is healthy and happy. She is a wonderful beginning to my family and I look forward to adopting another dog in the near future as her companion in the yard. Ruby will be even happier with a brother or sister. Thank you Project Pet!

Stretch aka Milo
Hi, my name is Milo and I have a great new family. My new mom loves me and spoils me so much. When I first got to my new home I ran right in and guess what my new brother and sister are cats. They are great and we get along so good. Miss Kitty loves me, we go outside together and we sleep on the bed at night. Mickie is my little brother. He’s a 6 month old kitten. We run around the house chasing each other and mom taught me to kiss him, but he doesn’t like it. I have an extended family too. My dad comes and sees me a couple times a week, he lives in Leesville. I love going to his house cause he has 2 acres and I have another brother and sister. Maggie and Marshall are also adopted pups, and we get along great! I love my new life here! I have toys, a blanket of my very own, and a big yard that I play in all the time. Mom takes me to the pet store and I get to pick out my own treats and toys. Mom is teaching me how to behave and I love learning new tricks. Yeap, life is sweet! Thanks Project Pet for letting my mom adopt me!

Tiny
Tiny is adjusting well to his new pack. Being the chihuahua that he is, he still has delusions of grandeur, and he continues to challenge his canine pack members for the alpha male role. However, he has developed a fondness for playing chase with his dachshund brother. Regarding his human companion, Tiny is still experiencing separation anxiety from his time in the shelter, so he constantly follows her around the house, and he whines when she leaves. On a triumphant note, after a few weeks of gingerly poking his nose through the flap, he has conquered the doggy door, and he now spends most afternoons lounging in the sun on the back porch.

The Count
Our new Mom and Dad took some pictures of is in our new house. I was scared when I got here. Mom and Dad showed me the toilet and the food and water and my bed. They did not lock me up. They just let me walk around. I was nervous. I thought they would try and touch me and bother me but they did not. Mom and Dad must have thought I would be lonely for my friends at Pet Smart. Mom drove to Lexington and picked up a friend for me. Her name is Tuxedo but I think she should be called Scooter because she races around like a motor scooter. When Scooter got at the new house she was not afraid of anything. That made me brave. The next day I came out more and guess what? Mom and Dad have these yummies they call Greenies. They are sure good. Scooter and me run up and down the stairs and we have new Kitty Condos, one for me and one for her. Today is my third day here and you know what else. Mom and Dad are sure nice. I can climb on the couch. Look out the big windows and look at the birdies. Scooter sure likes to play a lot. Today we both laid down and took a nap in the afternoon. I do not miss being in a cage but I am glad you saved me and Scooter. I will write and send more pictures later. Your Kitty Friends Count AKA Pretty Boy And Tuxedo AKA Scooter PS. My Mom helped me write this.

Bandit
It has been about a month since we adopted Bandit from Project Pet. He’s settling in quite nicely as you can see from the picture. One of our other cats still fusses at him a little, but she’s temperamental anyway. One of the other ones likes to play and chase, and she even tried to sleep by him, but Bandit had no idea to do with that. He just looked at her like she was crazy; he hasn’t learned how to relate to "siblings" quite yet. In time. He’s very loving, curious and talkative, and he makes himself at home, even in the vet’s office when we took them all last weekend. And he likes ice cream (though just a taste, of course). Anyway, we wanted you to know that he’s doing well and has found his home. Thank you again for all of your help with the adoption. Best of luck in your work.

Aladdin
My name is Aladdin and I have finally found a home! My Mom and Dad shower me with attention and I get to go on long walks almost everyday. They also love me soo much that they let me sleep in the bed with them every night! I have a brother now named Calvin and he is the coolest brother anyone could have. He teaches me the ins and outs of my new house and backyard. My new favorite game is playing with tennis balls. Also, I have learned how to sit, shake, lie down and I have almost learned how to roll over. I am the happiest dog in the whole world all thanks to project pet finding me a home!!!

Mystic

Mystic is doing WONDERFUL! He has it so easy, he just lays around on the bed all day and then sleeps on our feet at night. He has settled in very well even though it took a bit for him to get used to us. He is now the "ruler of the roost" and doesn’t let you forget it.

Devin Aka Squiggy
Devin is enjoying her new home with mom and dad and her other canine brothers and sisters. She thinks she is the queen and rules the roost! We are so happy she has found her forever home and with a Project Pet volunteer who will spoil her rotten like the princess she is! She has been renamed Squiggy as in Laverne and Shirley’s Squiggy. Best of luck Ms. Squiggy!

Trigger
He is wonderful!!! I have gotten so attached to him in such a short amount of time. He has done so good in his transformation and has had only one accident in the house! He seems to know what he needs to do when I take him outside and goes right away.
He slept the whole way back to Charleston yesterday. He cuddles right up to me and goes to sleep and sleeps all night in the bed with me too.
My kids adore him, especially my son! he is such an animal lover.

Piper
Piper has been nothing but fun since I adopted her. She is the cutest little dog I have ever seen and she draws attention everywhere we go. People tend to mistake her for a teddy bear when I am holding her and give me funny looks until she moves and they realize she is a dog. She is a spoiled baby and I couldn’t be happier. I wish I knew what she was mixed with because everyone wants to know. Piper is a great foster sister to both canine and feline friends and she loves to play with everyone. Piper has become best friends with my roommate’s cat that she adopted as a kitten and the cat now weighs more than Piper but they tackle each other and roll across the floor as if they are littermates. I don’t know how such a great little dog ended up in the shelter, but I am so glad that I was able to give her the home she needed. Thanks Project Pet!

Polaris

We adopted Polaris 5 weeks ago and I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful boy he is. He is the sweetest boy, he sleeps with us everynight. We are so thrilled with him. Thank you so much for rescuing him and giving him a second chance. He is very special to us and is living a very good life. My other 2 girls are doing great with him and are adjusting well. Thank you so much for the wonderful work that you do.

Gus
Hey!! I Adopted A Chiuahuah X Named " Gus " From Yall About 2 years Ago. He Is Do’n Great And Is A Blessing To Have Around. He Has Really Become A Family Dog. My Nephew Who Is 4 Has Bonded With Him Unbeliveably, There Inseprepable :) I Just Really Wanted To Thank You Guys At Project Pet For Giving All Of The Wonderful Animals A Second Chance

Clover
Well our darling Clover is doing great. Her and Silvio are much better with each other and are very protective of one another. If we take Silvio out and she stays in the house she will sit by the door and cry. Also Silvio gets into a shouting match with our neighbors Chihuahua over Clover. Ms. Clovers eating semi-moist Pedigree for small dogs food now, she loves these semi moist bones that we buy her and loves to wrestle with Silvio. She is not to fond of toys though. At first I was a nervous wreck with her because Silvio is so young and so vibrant but she has built up to his level. The doctor recommended some senior dog vitality vitamins for her and they have worked great. Clover has gone for 2 haircuts since we have had her and has done great each time never giving them a problem. We have maintained her on a consistent flea, tick and heartworm medication regimen as I promised you. I can honestly say that finding Project Pet and adopting this little angel has been the best decision I have made. Once we are done building our house on our property we will have a huge fenced yard for the both of them to run free and we are thinking of buying a little pool for the summer to see if they will like that, if not its always a good place to soak our feet on a hot day. :-)

Tracy aka Sadie
My Project Pet dog, Sadie, is the sweetest animal alive. She was house broken when I got her and now goes to her leash by the door and sits when she needs to go out. I wake up every morning to her licking my nose, she has learned to sit and shake (we are currently working on lay down). She does not run off and stays right by me, all she wants is to be loved and petted. (sp?). She is so grateful for the love and new home she has it is amazing. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and isn’t really bothered by cats.
I highly reccomend adopting a pet from Project Pet to anyone. Sadie really is very smart and sweet, and it amazes me everyday that adorable thing was in jepordy of losing her life if it wasn’t for Project Pet. She came with all of her shots, already fixed, food, microchipped, collar, leash, and heartguard medicine at a reduced cost.

Tuxedo
Our new Mom and Dad took some pictures of is in our new house. I was scared when I got here. Mom and Dad showed me the toilet and the food and water and my bed. They did not lock me up. They just let me walk around. I was nervous. I thought they would try and touch me and bother me but they did not. Mom and Dad must have thought I would be lonely for my friends at Pet Smart. Josie
What a GREAT first weekend with Josie!! I’ll give you a little play-by-play to let you know how things have been since I adopted her. Ride home was interesting -- Josie was intent on riding shot-gun! So we adjusted, and she sat nice and straight in the front seat the whole way home! She was excited to explore the front yard and then spent a few minutes sniffing my two front rooms. She was then introduced to the backyard -- what a treat! She was all over the place & quickly introduced herself to the neighbor-dogs!! I quickly learned that she loves to roll in the grass and anything that is in the grass. So, needless to say, Josie had her second bath in two days -- she tolerated that OK, but really liked the toweling off at the end - I probably could have done that for a couple of hours without her moving a muscle!! Given her reluctance to venture down the hallway, she spent Friday night on her bed in my den -- got up early Saturday a.m., and learned that she is DEFINITELY a morning-dog!! She was literally pouncing up and down wanting to play! So, I had some company that night and her tail thumped to wake me the next morning -- she loves to stretch all the way out and get the full-body rub-down!! I’ve found that she really loves to have her long neck rubbed and will close her eyes and practically fall asleep while you’re doing all of the work!! I’m afraid that she might have some name confusion -- I probably tell her she’s a ’good girl’ so much that she may start to respond to that instead!! PS -- one nice little trick from the ’lab’ in her -- picking up socks, hats, shoes, etc. and moving them from room to room -- at first I thought I had early Alzheimer’s ("Didn’t I just put those shoes in the other room????") until I caught her in the act -- she didn’t even act guilty, just looked at me like "Well, didn’t you WANT these put in another room?? I’m just being helpful!!"

McGee
Here is McGee. He is doing really well, he gets along great with my kids and with my other two dogs. He loves to sleep in the bed and play with my Golden Retriever as much as possible. He is still a little chunky, but I do not mind. My daughter calls him monkey. When I sit on the floor he will run up to me and lay his head on my lap and he loves to have his back scratched and the back of his ears rubbed. I will keep you posted on McGee. Thanks so much!

Whiskers aka Jordan
We love this cat. He is so spoilt. He turned out to be a great Cat for us. He has such a personality and is so talkative. I was skeptical at first, because I had never adopted a big cat. I always started off with kittens. He has gained weight and is so active. He loves my son and sleeps with us ever night. He wakes us up in the morning with kisses. He has an amazing personality. He does not like to left alone, so when we come home he lavishes us with attention. He is a very loving big boy and we have fallen in love with him. I just wanted you to know how much joy he has brought into our lives. We later named him Jordan and he comes when he is called. He is very smart. Thank you and everyone involved at Project Pet.
